Samuel Christopher       Wednesday, 8 November 2017

Wuse market located in the capital city of Nigeria, Abuja, turned into a pandemonium after a taxi driver was shot by a task force man.

The aggrieved taxi drivers took to the streets of Abuja to vent their displeasure over the death of their fellow driver who was shot by a task force man. The protesters blocked the roads which disrupted movement in the city. The protesters also set tyres on fire.

Speaking to Newsmen,  protesters narrated what lead to the protest.

A protester identified as David Johnson told newsmen that the protest started after a taxi driver was shot by a task force man. He said, "They short our man. Thats how the task force normally terrorise us"

Another protester simply identified as Orne, said, " We won’t take it anymore, the driver was shot by a soldier. When he fell down, they (the task force) quickly carried him and dumped him in his vehicle. I saw blood gushing out from the victim at the time they sped off to escape mob attack", he narrated.

A taxi driver named Emmanuel told newsmen that "Those task force are nothing short of evils. They harass us on daily basis, detain our cars and extort money from us without retiring it to the government".

Donald, another taxi driver narrates his previous encounter with the task force men. He said that he was arrested about six times by officials of Vehicle Inspection Office, VIO, and the task force.

"In each arrest I had to part away with amount from N6,000 naira, N7,000 naira up to even N15,000. I’m a pastor, I will not tell lies to you. They never gave me a single receipt.

“This shows that all the monies they collected from us are being pocketed and shared among themselves", he added.

However, some armed police officers went to wuse market to quell the protest. They removed all road blocks along wuse and berger areas. By 1:00pm, calmness was restored but cars were wrongly packed.

The protesters vowed to take the protest to the office of the VIO.
