A 20-year-old mother, Samsiya Hassan who allegedly dumped her one-day-old baby in a pit toilet has been arrested by katsina state police command.
The mother of two had issues with her husband which lead to divorce. She remarried and moved to her new husband's house as a second wife. In her new husbands house, she reportedly dumped her baby in a pit toilet. The baby happens to be a child she had together with her divorced husband.
A neighbour, who saw her entering the toilet with the baby said that she came out without the baby and raised alarm when she heard the cry of the baby. The baby was rescued, rushed to the hospital but reportedly died six days later.
Hassan was arrested alongside with her husband.
In the police custody, Hassan told journalist who came to interview her that she went to the toilet and in the process, a baby came out and fell into the toilet.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isah who confirmed the incident said that Hassan and her husband would be arraigned before a court after police investigation.
